Jazz

Our performance & competitive division jazz classes involve high-energy techniques characterized by combinations of technical and sharp movements. Jazz is a creative dance style that develops body and music awareness, stamina, and theatrics.

The term “jazz dance” originally was defined as any dance done to jazz music, including tap dance and ragtime. It has since evolved into a choreographed combination of vernacular movements such as the Charleston, Lindy hop, and mambo, set to a wide variety of musical styles from jazz to pop.

Recitals & Competitions

Our competitive division takes part in performances and competitions throughout the year. Please refer to the Dance Schedule for more information.

About the Class

At Premiere Dance Academy, our dancers are taught to have a high-energy stage presence that commands attention. Our jazz students are taught to move and flow with a low centre of gravity, while learning challenging choreography to showcase at competitions and performances.

Our faculty is expertly-trained to work dancers through the Al Gilbert, ADAPT, ISTD Tap, CDTA, New York Style, and LA Style Syllabi. Our lessons include choreography with elements of both Broadway and Rhythm tap, with inspiration from the original jazz roots of African dance.
