Tap dancing originated in the United States in the late 20th century and is widely known for its unique use of sound. Metal “taps” are attached to the sole and heel of the shoe, and specific steps are used to strike the floor and create a rhythm.
The two major styles of Tap dance are Rhythm Tap, which is focused on musicality, and Broadway Tap, which is dance-focused. Both styles come from roots in African dance, Irish Jigs, and European Clog dances, combining unique rhythmic footwork with elaborate movements.
